Hi

Je va ecrire en englais parce que mon francais est trés mauvais (je le
lit mas... la ecriture...)

I have a Siemens Santis ADSL modem and I am trying to connect to
Sapo-adsl (one of the portuguese providers).

I have read some of the info (documentation/FAQs and a portuguese
document about it), and I also read some of the messages on the
archive of the list but ... I still do not any sucess in having my
adsl connection working under Linux.

The messages that "eci-doctor" gives are:

You are using linux kernel version 2.4.18
Support for USB is OK
Preliminary USB device filesystem is OK
dabusb module is not loaded: OK
ehci-hcd module is not loaded: OK
UHCI support is OK
OHCI support is OK
/dev/ppp is OK
HDLC support is OK
HDLC support is OK (no bug)
You are using pppd version  (untested)
No existing PPP connection... trying to make one (please wait)

Hi,

First did you try to reboot and try again startmodem ?
And check if ppp configuration files are OK :
- /etc/ppp/chap-secrets (or /etc/ppp/pap-secrets), the syntax for this file is :
"username"  *  "password"  *
(don't forget the ")
- /etc/ppp/peers/adsl ==> check if this file is ok.

If still problems, please send me (not on the mailing list) your /var/log/messages file (or the end if too big), I'll look at this.
