~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: "Bnny Cygnion" <cygnion (à) hotmail.com> Subject: [ECI] Topcom Webracer 850 Date: Sun, 15 Dec 2002 09:43:58 +0100 Hi everyone, as I saw on the site , http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/support.php?lang=en , the adsl usb modem Topcom Webracer 850 should be working under Linux. But I don't get it to work properly. I'm using RedHat 8.0 , kernel version 2.4.18-14, pppd version 2.4.1. This is what I do. I'm using the stable release (0.5-2). First I make sure that dabusb is not loaded. That's going good : I managed that to do. Then, I configure my provider settings with eciconf.sh. Also no problem here. Then, I want to "start" my modem with "startmodem", but it freezes at a certain packet (depends on what bin I use : the "default" bin freezes at 259). I've tried ALL bin's, but none of them works properly :(. This is what eci-doctor.sh says when executing it : <ECI-DOCTOR.SH> You are using linux kernel version 2.4.18-14 Support for USB is OK Preliminary USB device filesystem is OK UHCI support is OK /dev/ppp is OK HDLC support is OK HDLC support is OK (no bug) dabusb module is not loaded: OK You are using pppd version (untested) No existing PPP connection... trying to make one (please wait) using channel 1 Using interface ppp0 Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/1 sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0x4b54db9e>] Script /usr/local/bin/pppoeci -vpi 8 -vci 35 finished (pid 1063), status = 0x0 Modem hangup Connection terminated. PPP: very bad ... usermode driver just crashed Dec 15 09:19:58 localhost kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout </ECI-DOCTOR.SH> BTW : I'm from Belgium (Planet Internet). I'm really desperate. I've tried everything. I've tried the new release candidate (0.6 RC2) but there I doesn't recognize my modem, even if I select the correct one in eciconf.sh. That's what I get when I use that release (executing startmodem) : <STARTMODEM (RC2)> setting up USB support (1/5).. loading firmware (2/5).. modem not found </STARTMODEM (RC2)> What could be the problem? I really like Linux, but when I don't have internet, it's just not the same :( Does anyone has a solution to my problems? Thanks, Benny _________________________________________________________________ Chatten met je online vrienden via MSN Messenger. http://messenger.msn.nl/ [PRECEDENT] [SOMMAIRE] [SUIVANT] [ARCHIVES]
Hi Bnny Cygnion, As you can read here : http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/download.php?lang=en, "EciAdsl stable version 0.5, 2002/05/15 : This version supports only ECI HiFocus modems." ...and : "Development version, This version supports all Globespan based modems (see the modems page)" (detail here : http://eciadslhttp://eciadsl.flashtux.org/modems.php?lang=en&modem=12) So you must install CVS version in order to connect with your Topcom Webr (à) cer 850 under Linux Have a nice install' ;) Cordialement / Best regards Sebastien. And again, I don't manage to get the modem to work. I properly selected my modem, and configured my provider settings (Planet Internet was in the options). But when I execute "startmodem", this is what I get : <STARTMODEM> setting up USB support (1/5).. loading firmware (2/5).. modem not found </STARTMODEM> When I run eci-doctor.sh, I get the following output : <ECI-DOCTOR.SH> You are using linux kernel version 2.4.18-14 Support for USB is OK Preliminary USB device filesystem is OK dabusb module is not loaded: OK ehci-hcd module is not loaded: OK UHCI support is OK /dev/ppp is OK HDLC support is OK HDLC support is OK (no bug) You are using pppd version (untested) No existing PPP connection... trying to make one (please wait) Couldn't get channel number: Input/output error Waiting for 1 child processes... script /usr/local/bin/pppoeci -vpi 8 -vci 35 -vendor 0x0915 -product 0x0002 -mode VCM_RFC2364, pid 1446 Script /usr/local/bin/pppoeci -vpi 8 -vci 35 -vendor 0x0915 -product 0x0002 -mode VCM_RFC2364 finished (pid 1446), status = 0xfb Cannot make a PPP connection: Fatal </ECI-DOCTOR.SH> And finally, when I probe my modem, I get this output : <PROBEDEVICE> WARNING: before probing, please ensure that your USB devices are plugged in and that your system's USB support is properly configured USB modem to probe must be UNinitialized, it will surely appear as an unknown device (because it is not initialized yet), for instance: ? So you'll do that : 1) boot wihout modem (unplug it before booting) 2) as root, type: /usr/local/bin/remove_dabusb 3) plug your modem (if power on immediately without running startmodem, then reboot again). The modem should not power on before running startmodem. Good luck ;) Cordialement / Best regards Sebastien. So I changed in eciconf.sh the values of PID to 8000, and now I am surfing in Linux :D Thanks a lot for the drivers and the help ;) greetz, Benny _________________________________________________________________ MSN Zoeken, voor duidelijke zoekresultaten! http://search.msn.nl/worldwide.asp [PRECEDENT] [SOMMAIRE] [SUIVANT] [ARCHIVES]
You need to unplug/replug your modem before using this tool.. Dabusb would have interfer with a deplug/replug, but since it was not detected, it must have been a USB module loading problem.
